The USS LST 325 Ship Memorial was recently seen on the CBS Sunday Morning Show!  What a huge piece of WWII history right in Indiana!  These ships were designed in 1942 to land battle ready tanks, vehicles, soldiers, and supplies directly onto enemy beaches. Over 1,000 of these ships were built for WWII. Many more were built for the Korean and Vietnam Wars for their ability to navigate inland waterways.  USS LST 325 participated in several operations, most notable was D-DAY AT OMAHA BEACH, NORMANDY. She was there for Operation HUSKY, the invasion of Sicily in 1943. She sailed as support for the invasion of Salerno, Italy later that year. This ship has seen 70 years of history and survived as the LAST FULLY-OPERATION WWII LST (Landing Ship, Tank).  We will walk her historic decks together for a 45 minute guided tour. Includes 3 sets of stairs down and 3 sets of stairs up (wheelchair accessible ONLY on top deck).  We’ll then board the bus and be treated to a home cooked boxed lunch as we travel to the “Castle on the Hill”, the Monastery Immaculate Conception!  Spanning three centuries, it is home to one of the nation’sLARGEST COMMUNITIES of Benedictine women! The Monastery dates back to 1867 and is listed on the National Historic Register.  We’ll tour the breathtaking grounds including the serene gardens, outdoor Stations of the Cross, a labyrinth and three shrines!  We’ll finish the day at the For Heaven’s Sake Gift Shop (perfect for searching out unique gifts for the special people in your life)!   Fast food supper stop on way home (on own).  Depart Troy Meijer @ 5:30 am, home 9:30 pm.  Depart Greenville’s Kroger at 6:00 am, home 9:00 pm.
